In the early stages of my design career both as a student and a practitioner, designing another object in different shapes or materials was of no personal interest. Rather I was interested in ‘epistemic objects’ which explore the meaning of objectual practice in which all is charged in the production of knowledge, though not all can be expressed, allowing tracing and curing of fragility. Designing objects of knowledge has the potential to impact on all aspects of everyday life however, the design philosophy is something that isn’t generally thought of. Ontological design implies different ways of understanding and my concern is with how design reveals knowledge and the effect that this revealed knowledge imparts on the future of humans and non-humans.
