The studio “Nomadic Affordances” opens a conversation between transient spaces and a life on the go. In this exploration, you will be crafting temporary and adaptable spaces in response to the evolving needs of urban environments, cities, buildings, residences, and compact spaces. The essence of this studio lies in conceiving the ultimate form of freedom—designs that are temporary, flexible, and responsive.

Throughout this journey, students will delve into visionary approaches, leveraging innovative technologies and manufacturing processes to bring their designs to life. The studio is not just about creating objects; it’s about understanding the dynamic process of design from inception to realisation.

The emphasis on the design process is complemented by hands-on experience in iterative production. From analogue to digital, students will explore various tooling and fabrication techniques, gaining insights into the craftsmanship and material possibilities available. The course is a blend of theory and practice, offering a comprehensive understanding of the development and execution of design concepts.

Furthermore, “Nomadic Affordances” stands as a collaborative venture between Interior Design and Industrial Design students. The cross-disciplinary nature of the studio enriches the learning experience, fostering diverse perspectives and approaches. The collaborative spirit extends to a week-long intensive session at Testing Ground, featuring a guest lecture by Ido Bruno from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.

The studio encourages thinking and learning through the scale of the body and the hands. By engaging with tangible experiences in the creation of design, students gain a deeper connection to their craft. “Nomadic Affordances” isn’t just a studio; it’s an immersive exploration into the dynamic intersection of design, technology, and the ever-changing needs of our environments.
